Voltalia has begun power generation at its 45MW Clifton solar plant in Dorset, south-west England.
The facility, located near Yeovil, will produce enough renewable electricity to meet the annual consumption of more than 10,600 households while avoiding 11,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Clifton secured a 20-year Contract for Difference in the UK’s fourth allocation round, providing long-term revenue stability for the project.
Together with the Higher Stockbridge site currently under construction, the project strengthens Voltalia’s presence in the UK, where the company now operates four solar and storage facilities totalling 134MW.
A further 79MW is under construction, while Voltalia has supported third-party clients in the development and operation of 23 additional projects with a combined 195MW.
Voltalia said its work contributes to the UK’s carbon neutrality and energy security targets by delivering competitively priced renewable energy amid market volatility.
“We are very proud to have commissioned the Clifton Solar Generating Station,” said Voltalia chief executive Robert Klein. “This project reflects our commitment to the UK market as well as our contribution to the national target of 95% low-carbon electricity production by 2030.”
