Zelestra and EDP have signed Spain’s first power purchase agreement to hybridise an operational solar plant with battery storage in Cáceres.
Zelestra said it will develop a 160MWh battery energy storage system to complement the 50MW Pizarroso solar plant, which has been operational since 2023.

EDP added that it will use the battery system to enhance energy management and optimise system flexibility at the site.
The agreement marks a step forward in Spain’s energy storage rollout and builds on the companies’ partnership in the country.
In 2025, Zelestra and EDP signed a combined solar and BESS PPA covering 170MW of solar capacity and 400MWh of storage in Trujillo, Extremadura.
