NESO issues new Gate 2 grid offers timetable

Octopus urges faster action on UK grid connections

GB system operator NESO has published an updated timetable for issuing Gate 2 grid offers following last year’s connections reform process.

It follows an update in January from NESO and the network companies that the confirmation of connection dates would be slower than expected due to “technical and engineering matters” identified post-queue formation that required time to review.

Transmission and large-scale embedded connections that were “protected” for 2026-27 are now expected to be issued during 13 February to mid-April 2026, while protected distribution offers will land between early March and the end of May, according to NESO.

Gate 2 Phase 1 transmission offers are scheduled to be confirmed between mid-May and mid-September, with Phase 1 distribution offers during early July to mid-November.

Gate 2 Phase 2 transmission schemes will get their offers from early September 2026 to mid-January 2027, with Phase 2 distribution offers in mid-October 2026 to mid-March 2027.

NESO stated: “We recognise that to date there has been considerable uncertainty for customers on the programme and, in particular, when offers should be expected, and we are committed to improving how we communicate and coordinate across the industry.

“Changes in sequencing will mean that some locations may issue offers earlier than others, based on engineering complexity and the scale of reassessment required. This will allow more customers to receive certainty sooner while maintaining whole system coordination.

“Across the industry, all partners are aligned behind a single objective: to deliver accurate, timely connection offers and clear, transparent communication throughout the connections reform programme.”
