Verdian acquires Sicily agrivoltaic solar portfolio

Verdian has completed the acquisition of a 117MWp agrivoltaic solar PV portfolio in Sicily from Genertec International Holding.

Verdian said the transaction is supported by Nuveen Infrastructure through its Clean Energy Strategy and expands the company’s Italian platform with three ready-to-build projects.

Nuveen Infrastructure noted that all three assets were awarded under the FER X auction scheme, benefiting from a Contract-for-Difference structure with the Italian national energy services operator GSE.

The portfolio comprises projects with capacities of 58MWp, 33MWp and 26MWp in the municipalities of Ramacca and Paternò in Sicily.

Construction is expected to start toward the end of 2026, with commercial operations anticipated between mid and late 2027.

Once operational, the portfolio is expected to generate around 224GWh of renewable electricity per year, equivalent to approximately 1.3% of Sicily’s total electricity consumption.

The projects will deploy bifacial modules and single-axis trackers and will be fully integrated into Verdian’s operating model.

“The acquisition of this 117 MWp ready-to-build solar cluster represents a meaningful milestone in the expansion of our Italian portfolio,” said Alfonso Ortal, chief executive of Verdian.

“These projects add scale, strengthen our long-term contracted revenue base through the FER X scheme, and align fully with our strategy of developing high-quality assets which combine renewable energy generation with responsible land use.”

“This acquisition reflects Verdian’s disciplined approach to growing its platform across core European markets,” said Jordi Francesch, board member of Verdian and head of global asset management, clean energy, Nuveen Infrastructure.

“Italy remains a key geography for long-term clean energy development, supported by a solid regulatory framework and strong fundamentals.”
