French developer Engie is in talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump that could see the company refunded in exchange for landing back offshore wind leases, Engie CEO Catherine MacGregor said Tuesday.
“Discussions are ongoing, and we’ll see if an agreement is possible,” MacGregor said Tuesday according to a Engie spokesperson.
The CEO did however reaffirm her commitment to the technology: “Economically and also in terms of public acceptance, I strongly believe in offshore wind power.”
Last month French oil giant TotalEnergie announced a deal under which the US government would reimburse the company the $928m it paid for a pair of leases off the east coast of the US.
Engie is behind a number of US offshore projects, alongside EDP as joint venture Ocean Winds, including the 2.4GW SouthCoast Wind 1 and 2 projects off the coast of Massachusetts, and the 2.4GW Bluepoint Wind Project off the coast of New York state.
MacGregor’s remarks were first reported by Bloomberg.
