R Power has started construction of its 150MW/300MWh Jedwabno battery energy storage project in Poland.
The company said civil works are underway and first containers have been delivered, with Nomad Electric leading construction as EPC contractor.
R.Power added the project is one of Poland’s largest energy storage schemes in construction and has secured revenues through a 17-year capacity market contract and a long-term optimisation agreement with Axpo.
The Jedwabno BESS is scheduled for completion at the end of 2026.
The project is intended to support Poland’s transition away from coal and help stabilise the grid.
R.Power said it connected 53 new renewables and BESS projects to the grid in 2025 and a further ten in the first quarter of 2026.
The company added its EPCM team has now connected more than 1GW of capacity across Poland, Portugal and Romania, with 800MW in its operational IPP portfolio.
A further 585MW is currently under construction across Poland, Portugal, Romania and Germany.
“Having laid the groundwork for Jedwabno commercially, we’re pleased to be making strong headway on construction of the project, drawing on the experience of our construction team in collaboration with trusted European EPC contractor Nomad Electric,” said Marcin Pajewski, chief technical officer at R.Power.
“This team will ensure the delivery of a robust utility-scale energy storage system that contributes directly to Polish energy security.”
“After the expansion of PV, utility-scale BESS is the natural next step and a game-changer that will transform how the entire EU power grid operates,” said Paweł Czaus, chief executive officer at Nomad Electric Group.
“We deliver the large-scale capacity that powers the continent’s energy transition.”
