The US energy storage market installed more than 18GW of battery systems in 2025, a 52% increase on 2024.

The American Clean Power Association and Wood Mackenzie said fourth-quarter installations reached 5.8GW, the highest quarterly total on record.

They added that utility-scale deployments accounted for 4.9GW in Q4, with activity spread across 13 states beyond core markets such as California and Texas.

The residential segment installed more than 800MW during 2025, marking a 75% year-on-year increase, while Q4 alone reached 1GWh.

The community, commercial and industrial segment recorded 77MW of installations in Q4, supported by state-level policies.

“The record-breaking energy storage growth seen in 2025 highlights how technology innovation is transforming America’s grid.

“This momentum, driven by supportive policy and expanding market opportunities, demonstrates that large-scale storage is now a cornerstone of delivering affordable, reliable, and American-made energy in communities nationwide,” said John Hensley, senior vice president of markets and policy analysis at ACP.

“2025 was a banner year for the energy storage market.

“Declining system costs, supportive policies and growing revenue opportunities have all contributed to the impressive growth over the last six years,” stated Allison Feeney, research analyst at Wood Mackenzie.

The report forecasts 500GWh of energy storage installations in the US between 2026 and 2031, representing a 250% increase compared to the previous five-year period.
