The European Commission has launched consultations to shape the EU’s renewable energy framework for the period after 2030.
The Commission said it has opened a four-week call for evidence and a 12-week public consultation, with input feeding into a legislative proposal due by the end of 2026.
It added that the framework aims to support climate goals while strengthening competitiveness, energy security and sustainability across Europe.
The Commission noted that renewables accounted for 25.2% of the EU energy mix in 2024, having doubled over the past 13 years.
It said achieving long-term objectives will require accelerated deployment of renewables alongside improved integration across sectors including transport, heating and industry.
The framework will be developed alongside a new energy efficiency framework and builds on initiatives including the Clean Industrial Deal and Affordable Energy Action Plan.
The call for evidence is open until 16 April, with the public consultation running until 12 June 2026.
