Zelestra has reached full commercial operation at the 19MWdc Villamañán solar project in León, Spain.
The company said the project is one of three solar plants delivered in Spain as part of a long-term vPPA with Graphic Packaging International.
Zelestra added that the partnership has delivered more than 100MWdc of new solar capacity through the Villamañán, José Cabrera and Socovos II projects.
The Villamañán plant will generate 28,700MWh of clean electricity annually and avoid more than 4,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Construction of the project supported more than 80 jobs and included the creation of a vegetative perimeter screen using native species.
“Bringing Villamañán online caps the efforts to deliver new solar capacity across three projects embedded in our vPPA partnership with Zelestra, which were built at remarkable speed,” said Elodie Bugnicourt, sustainability director international at Graphic Packaging International.
“Our customers are increasingly focused on reducing their carbon footprint, and it’s rewarding to see this clean electricity enabling a more sustainable packaging value chain.”
“This milestone at Villamañán was made possible by our innovative partnership with Graphic Packaging International and our shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition,” said Luis Alvargonzalez, country manager Spain at Zelestra.
“By delivering more than 100MW of new clean energy capacity, we are not only supporting our customer’s decarbonisation goals, but also creating green jobs, investing in local communities, and contributing to a more resilient, sustainable Spanish economy.”
