Energiekontor unleashes revamped Oederquart park

Green light for 33MW German repowering

Energiekontor has commissioned the repowered Oederquart wind park in Lower Saxony, adding around 17MW to its own portfolio.

The company said its total operating portfolio now stands at about 450MW, with more than 200MW under construction for future integration.

The repowering replaced ten older turbines totalling 15MW with six new Enercon E-160 EP-5 machines, bringing capacity to about 33MW, according to Energiekontor.

Each turbine has a nominal power of around 5.6MW and the site is expected to yield roughly 80GWh a year from its first full year of operation.

Half of the project contributes to Energiekontor’s electricity generation income after the remaining share was sold in 2024.

The company said the output is enough to supply around 24,000 households and save about 60,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Energiekontor added that its group-owned assets now comprise 35 wind parks and four solar parks.

Three further projects totalling more than 120MW are scheduled to join the portfolio in 2026, including two solar parks in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and a 7MW turbine in Verden.

Additional capacity of around 85MW is expected to be transferred in 2027 as new parks complete construction.

Peter Szabo, chief executive officer of Energiekontor, said: “The commissioning of the Oederquart wind park once again underscores how important repowering old plants is for achieving the expansion targets for renewable energies in Germany.”

He added: “This project is also a good example of how existing infrastructures can be efficiently upgraded using modern plant technology, thereby generating stable long-term returns.”
