DNV has acquired Smarter Power Solutions, an Australian power systems consultancy known for advanced grid-connection engineering.
DNV said the deal strengthens its position as a leading independent power grids adviser in Asia Pacific and creates one of the world’s foremost centres of excellence in grid-connection engineering.
It added that SPS brings a specialised team with experience in complex grid studies, modelling, commissioning and compliance, supported by a track record that includes early approvals from the Australian Energy Market Operator for grid-forming and hybrid battery projects.
Ditlev Engel, CEO, energy systems at DNV, said “By welcoming Smarter Power Solutions into DNV, we are significantly strengthening our ability to help customers across Asia Pacific navigate increasingly complex grid connection challenges.”
“I am proud to welcome more than 35 exceptionally talented colleagues from Smarter Power Solutions to DNV,” he added.
DNV stated that SPS’s digitalised, software-driven approach, including automation and high-performance computing, will enhance its global power systems business and increase support for customers facing complex grid integration issues.
The acquisition follows DNV’s purchase of Amplitude Consultants in November 2025 as it expands its power grids advisory services across Asia Pacific.
Dr Lena Landsmann, vice president and regional director APAC, energy systems at DNV, stated that “DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook 2025 highlights that Australia is rapidly scaling grid flexibility.”
“By joining forces with Smarter Power Solutions, DNV deepens its commitment to supporting Australia’s ambitious energy transition,” she said.
Barry O’Connell, managing director, Smarter Power Solutions, concluded “Smarter Power Solutions joining DNV Group reflects a strong alignment of shared values and a deep commitment to making the world a better place through innovation and engineering.”
“At Smarter Power Solutions, we have developed rigorous engineering design processes, leveraging the latest cutting-edge computing technology and software development practices,” he added.
