WindEurope CEO Tinne van der Straeten has called for backing for the European wind supply chain in the face of rising competition from Chinese players.
Speaking to the reNEWS Podcast, van der Straeten said the continent’s mature industry must be supported.
She was speaking just over a week into the new role, succeeding Giles Dickson as the head of the European trade group for the sector.
“First and foremost, what’s important is let’s not forget that we have a European industry, that we have a strong supply chain that is European today,” she said.
“That needs to be cherished, that needs also to be supported.
“We are with the wind industry, the only clean tech sector that is in European hands, that has a strong European footprint.
“I would love to see Europe but also national policymakers, companies and industries that buy electricity to be proud of that and to support that and to avoid new dependencies.”
Van der Straeten also addresses the Hamburg Declaration and outlines her concerns about growing anti-renewables sentiment.
