Taihan has completed construction of a dedicated HVDC cable test centre to enhance its competitiveness and support global market expansion.
The company said the new facility enables simultaneous testing of two 640kV-class HVDC cable circuits and allows fully in-house development, validation and certification activities.
The centre spans about 7000 square metres at the Dangjin Cable Plant, integrating closely with existing production infrastructure and supporting both onshore and submarine cable testing.
Its capability is expected to shorten development and certification timelines and improve responsiveness to customer requirements.
A consolidated suite of testing equipment provides a one-stop environment to verify safety and reliability, including long-term PQ testing and temporary overvoltage testing.
“We will continue to expand our presence in the global HVDC market, underpinned by robust technological capabilities,” the company said.
At the ceremony, Vice Chairman Song Jong-min stated, “The HVDC test center is a cornerstone infrastructure that demonstrates Taihan’s technological strength,” adding, “By internalizing the entire process-from product development and validation to certification-we are now able to proactively respond to domestic and international HVDC projects, including the ‘West Coast Energy Highway’ initiative.”
He further emphasized, “We will continue to expand our presence in the global HVDC market.”
Taihan has identified HVDC cables as a key growth driver and has invested in technology and infrastructure since developing Korea’s first 500kV LCC HVDC cable system in 2022, followed by a 525kV VSC HVDC cable system.
