SSE has published a fisheries safety flyer to support safe navigation and fishing activity within its operational UK offshore wind farms.
The developer said the guide provides practical information on navigation, wind farm infrastructure, incident reporting and communication procedures, and safe operating considerations.
It added that the flyer builds on its 2023 principles for co-existence with commercial fisheries, which set out how offshore wind and fishing can work together throughout development and operations.
The flyer has been reviewed with input and endorsement from organisations including the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, the Northern Lighthouse Board, Trinity House and the European Subsea Cables Association.
Elspeth Macdonald, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation said: “The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation welcomes this jointly endorsed safety flyer as a practical step to support safe operations within offshore windfarms.”
Fingal McKiernan, commercial fisheries manager for SSE Renewables said: “Safety is a core value at SSE and that extends beyond our workforce to everyone operating in and around our wind farms.”
