EDF has announced it has terminated plans to deploy the 58MW Blyth 2 floating wind farm off north-east England.
The test and demonstration scheme co-owned with Vantage RE was consented in 2021 as an extension of the operational 41.5MW Blyth wind farm (pictured) but has so far failed to find a route to market.
The project was one of five UK floaters eligible to enter Allocation Round 7 in which Blue Gem Wind’s 100MW Erebus off south Wales and CIP’s 100MW Pentland off north Scotland were the only projects to secure CfDs.
A spokesperson for EDF said: “After careful consideration, EDF power solutions UK has made the difficult decision to not progress the Blyth 2 offshore wind farm project.
“EDF power solutions UK remains dedicated to contributing to the development and growth of offshore wind through other projects.
“We continue to develop a pipeline of projects across onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and battery, and we are committed to playing our part in accelerating the UK to net zero and enhancing our energy security.”
