Yinson Renewables has acquired the rights to the 95MW Mt Cass Wind Farm in New Zealand from MainPower New Zealand Limited.
Construction is expected to start in early 2026 and operations are scheduled for 2028, the company said.
Mt Cass is designed to generate over 300GWh of electricity annually for about 40,000 households and will be Yinson Renewables’ first wind farm under construction and its first in the country, according to the developer.
Yinson Renewables chief executive officer David Brunt said: “The Mt Cass Wind Farm represents a significant expansion of our footprint in New Zealand.”
Brunt added: “We are privileged to be the first global independent power producer to own and construct a wind farm in the country – an important step for Yinson Renewables both strategically and in our mission to deliver sustainable solutions that support New Zealand’s energy transition.”
Yinson Renewables country manager for New Zealand Trevor Nash commented: “The Mt Cass wind project is a cornerstone of our strategy in New Zealand.”
Nash added: “We look forward to working with all of the key stakeholders on this project to bring more clean energy projects online and contribute to our nation’s decarbonisation goals.”
