Greenvolt Group has agreed to sell a 253MW onshore wind project in Romania to Engie Romania through its Greenvolt Power unit.
The company said the project is located in Ialomița County in south-eastern Romania and is already under construction, with completion expected in 2027.
Engie Romania will double its renewable capacity to 500MW through the acquisition, according to the company.
The project will comprise 42 turbines and is set to become one of the largest wind farms in the country.
Part of the project’s capacity has been awarded a 15-year contract for difference, providing long-term revenue visibility, stated the company.
João Manso Neto, chief executive of Greenvolt Group, said: “Greenvolt’s ability to originate, develop and bring to market high-quality renewable energy assets is once again demonstrated through this project, which represents a clear contribution to the European energy transition and to Romania in particular. Throughout 2025, we have continued delivering on the Group’s strategy of rotating a portion of our utility-scale assets, concluding several successful operations that allow us to reinvest in new opportunities across our core markets”.
Cristian Buzan, vice president Engie Romania, said: “This acquisition reflects Engie’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition in Romania and across Europe. By integrating a large-scale wind project of this size into our portfolio, we are doubling our renewable footprint in a market with strong growth potential, while contributing to security of supply and the achievement of our net-zero carbon ambition by 2045”.
Spyros Martinis, chief strategy and investment officer of Greenvolt Power, said: “This transaction fully aligns with our strategic goal of delivering and monetising high-impact projects across multiple technologies – wind, solar and BESS. We are very pleased to have reached this deal with Engie, whose confidence in our expertise once again underscores Greenvolt Power’s position as one of the leading developers of utility-scale projects at the global level”.
The agreement follows a series of asset-rotation transactions completed by Greenvolt in 2025, including wind projects in Poland and a greenfield pipeline in Spain, as well as battery storage deals in Poland.
