Great British Energy chief executive Dan McGrail has set out the publicly-owned energy company’s strategy in the latest episode of the reNEWS podcast.
McGrail told the show that he is receiving strong signals from the market that what is needed is public backing for the sector.
“What we’re hearing from the market is that GB Energy co-investing into projects that are in the development phase is a way of sending confidence to investors to continue to spend development capital,” McGrail said.
The former RenewableUK boss said he believes the investment picture also continues to look good for green energy, despite a challenging year.
“The investment hypothesis remains fundamentally strong. And if you look even further afield than the UK, investment in renewables continues to outpace investment in oil and gas,” he said on the second episode of the reNEWS podcast.
“So having a publicly owned energy company coming in and signalling that there’s confidence in the technology is a powerful thing,” added McGrail.
“I think that’s part of the role of the catalytic public investment alongside the private sector is to say, look, we believe in the destination, come on the journey with us.”
