Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy has signed a contract with Kajima Corporation for the manufacturing, procurement, transportation, and installation of offshore wind turbine foundations for its 315MW project off the coast of Oga City, Katagami City, and Akita City in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
The agreement marks a key milestone as the project moves towards full-scale construction. Kajima will leverage its technical expertise and construction experience to deliver the works with a focus on safety, quality, and environmental protection, the developer said.
The 21-turbine scheme, set to feature Vestas V236-15MW machines, is Japan’s first offshore wind project developed under the Act on Promoting the Utilisation of Sea Areas for Renewable Energy.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in June 2028.
The developer plans to establish Japan’s largest offshore operations and maintenance business, with 86% of employees recruited from Akita Prefecture. It will also support the growth of regional industries by collaborating with local businesses and suppliers.
Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy said it will work with partners including Itochu Corporation to promote cooperative sales and sustainable development in Akita’s agricultural and fisheries sectors, while contributing to Japan’s wider carbon-neutral and battery storage ambitions.
