BOREAS Energie has placed a conditional order with Vestas for 41 wind turbines totalling 235MW, continuing the companies’ long-standing collaboration to expand renewable energy in Central Germany.
The order includes turbine models V136, V150, V162 and V172 and follows a previous agreement earlier this year for 29 V162-6.2MW EnVentus turbines with a combined capacity of 175MW.
BOREAS managing director Jörg Kuntzsch (pictured, 4th left) said: “This renewed order underlines our long-standing and trusting cooperation with Vestas and stands for our shared vision of a future-proof and environmentally friendly energy industry. With over 35 years of experience in the planning, construction and operation of wind and solar power plants, BOREAS, together with Vestas as the global market leader in the field of wind energy, creates high-performance solutions for a climate-friendly future.”
The Dresden-based developer has worked with Vestas since 1992, when it installed its first 250kW V26 turbine on the Hirtstein in the Saxon Ore Mountains – a machine still in operation today.
Since then, BOREAS has purchased a total of 334 Vestas turbines for projects across Germany.
Vestas Northern & Central Europe president Nils de Baar (pictured, centre) said: “We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with BOREAS by jointly driving the development of nine locations in Central Germany. BOREAS intends to deploy a wide range of Vestas turbine variants and we look forward to announcing the orders with a total capacity of up to 235MW as soon as they are finally confirmed.”
Commissioning of the new turbines is scheduled between 2026 and 2027.
Vestas will also provide full-service support to ensure high availability and performance.
BOREAS said the conditional order signals confidence in the strength of its partnership with Vestas and reinforces both companies’ shared commitment to advancing wind energy across the region.
