The MLK Group has brought in NEW Re, a subsidiary of municipal energy supplier NEW AG, as a partner in the Boisheimer Nette wind farm near Viersen, strengthening both the local energy transition and regional economic returns.
NEW Re now holds a one-third share in the operating project, with MLK retaining the remaining two-thirds. MLK said the move will help keep profits within the region while ensuring a broader and more reliable energy supply.
Since spring 2025, four Enercon E160 turbines have been generating around 50 million kilowatt hours of green electricity annually at the Boisheimer Nette site, supplying enough power for more than 14,000 households.
MLK founder and managing director Heinrich Lohmann said: “We are very pleased to bring NEW Re on board as a municipal partner. Together, we are sending a signal for the energy transition in the Lower Rhine region. The participation shows that successful renewable energy projects have the best effect where they are rooted – in the region and for the local people.”
NEW Re managing director Michael Theisejans said: “With our participation in the Boisheimer Nette wind farm, we want to advance the regional energy transition above all. Locally generated, renewable electricity creates added value for citizens. It is partnerships, such as this one with the MLK Group, that show how municipal and private actors can pick up speed together.”
MLK said the Boisheimer Nette project demonstrates how cooperation between public and private partners can unite climate protection, energy security and regional growth to deliver direct local benefits.
The company is continuing to expand its renewable portfolio across the Lower Rhine region, with a completed wind farm in Schwalmtal-Eicken, another under construction in Niederkrüchten-Boscherhausen, and a financed project at Dülkener Nette scheduled to begin construction next year.
