Zelestra has achieved commercial operations at the José Cabrera solar plant in Spain.
The 50.4MWdc project in Guadalajara was built and connected in 12 months, ahead of schedule.
The solar plant (pictured) will generate 83GWh of clean energy per year, enough to power 24,000 homes.
José Cabrera has a long-term virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Graphic Packaging, and forms part of a wider agreement with the company that will see over 100MWdc of new solar capacity built this year.
The project supported more than 200 jobs during the construction phase.
José Cabrera is also expected to avoid the emissions of 11,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Luis Alvargonzalez, Zelestra’s country manager in Spain, said: “We are proud to have delivered this significant project ahead of time and under budget, to guarantee the delivery of clean energy for Graphic Packaging to help them meet their decarbonisation targets.
“In the development phase we worked closely with a wide range of local stakeholders and community groups to plan our activities carefully and our EPC team then drew on their wide experience to bring this project to life in record time.”
Zelestra has a project portfolio of more than 6GW in Spain, which includes over 1GW of projects contracted, under construction, or operational.
