Wien Energie plans to acquire all shares in Austrian renewables developer ImWind, strengthening its role in the country’s energy transition.
The companies said the move is designed to secure an independent, sustainable energy supply and accelerate the expansion of wind and solar.
ImWind, which has offices in Vienna, Pottenbrunn and Mainz, has been developing, building and operating projects in Austria and abroad for 30 years.
Following the acquisition, ImWind will continue to exist independently on the market with its team of around 100 specialists.
Completion of the transaction is subject to approval by competition authorities.
Austria’s electricity demand is forecast to rise sharply by 2040, requiring significant growth in photovoltaic and wind capacity to achieve climate neutrality.
Wien Energie currently operates 500 solar systems, 88 hydroelectric plants and 106 wind turbines.
ImWind operates 52 turbines across 14 wind farms and four solar farms.
Together, the companies will combine expertise to expand renewable energy capacity and deliver Austria’s climate neutrality target by 2040.
Wien Energie had previously announced plans to acquire two wind farms and one solar plant from ImWind, with Mönchhof wind farm already integrated into its portfolio.
All turbines in ImWind’s fleet will continue to be operated by the company after the acquisition.
