Zenobe has acquired a 400MW ready-to-build battery storage project in Carlisle, Cumbria from Innova.
The Low Harker site has a 2028 connection date and planning consent secured in October 2023.
Zenobe said the acquisition underlines its role in meeting the UK’s target of 25GW of BESS capacity by 2030.
The project will connect to the Harker substation, a strategic grid location, and is expected to provide inertia and reactive power services after the closure of local thermal plants such as Heysham nuclear.
Zenobe will draw on its experience from the Blackhillock project in Scotland, using grid-forming inverters to participate in multiple markets and reduce curtailment.
Semih Oztreves, global director of network infrastructure at Zenobe, said: “The Harker project marks another milestone in delivering the flexible, resilient energy infrastructure the UK needs to accelerate its transition to net zero.”
Innova began development in 2022 and said the project highlights its ability to unlock clean energy infrastructure.
Community benefit schemes have been agreed with local parish councils and organisations to support initiatives throughout the project’s life.
Zenobe now has 1.6GW of BESS assets in operation, under construction or ready to build, including the recently acquired 1GW Butlers Wood connection.
