Yunlin offshore wind farm enters full operation

Yunneng Wind Power’s 640MW Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan has entered full commercial operation.

The project comprises 80 turbines, all grid-connected, and has secured the required electricity business licences, regulatory approvals and contractual obligations under its financing agreement.

Yunneng is a joint venture of Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, EGCO Group and Sojitz Corporation.

With operations now under way, TotalEnergies will lead technical management, while Skyborn will continue to oversee other management services.

The wind farm, which achieved full grid connection in January 2025, will generate about 2400GWh a year, equivalent to the needs of over 600,000 households.

Yunneng said this will meet 90% of Yunlin County’s non-industrial electricity demand and cut carbon emissions by 1.2m tonnes annually.

Chairperson Xian-Shuen said: “Throughout this journey, the project has established new models of collaboration with local suppliers and financing of green energy projects in Taiwan.

“It has also embraced environmental protection and community engagement. This landmark offshore wind farm will continue to dedicate its commitment to achieve operational excellence over the next 30 years.”

Located 8–17km off Taiwan’s west coast, Yunlin covers 82km² with turbines installed at water depths of 7–35m.

Power is delivered via two onshore substations in Yunlin County under two 20-year power purchase agreements with Taiwan Power Company.

The project is backed by a financing consortium of Taiwanese and international banks and export credit agencies.
