Haesong Offshore Wind has signed a grid interconnection agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) for the 1GW wind project off the coast of Shinan.
The agreement covers the two phases of the South Korean offshore wind project, Haesong 1 and Haesong 3.
The Haesong offshore wind farm is being developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners via its CI V Fund, in collaboration with Copenhagen Offshore Partners.
The project has already completed a wind measurement campaign and secured electricity business licences.
Haesong Offshore Wind said the agreement with Kepco marks a major milestone, enabling the connection of 1GW of renewable energy to the grid.
Strategic grid director for Haesong Offshore Wind Jungwoo Hong said: “Beyond merely securing transmission infrastructure, this agreement is significant as it lays the foundation for managing project lifecycle risks and enhances long-term predictability.”
He added that he would strive to promote the revitalisation of the overall offshore wind ecosystem in the region and to ensure that Shinan can establish itself as a key hub for the domestic offshore wind industry.
Haesong Offshore Wind has pledged to continue working closely with Kepco and regional partners, aiming to contribute to the development of the local industrial ecosystem and Korea’s broader energy transition.
Last month, Haesong Offshore Wind awarded two key contracts for the wind project. LS Marine Solution was the preferred bidder for subsea cable transport and installation, while EEW KHPC was chosen to supply pin piles and casings, essential components for securing jacket-type substructures at offshore wind farms.
