Germany awards 3.4GW in wind tender

Germany awards 3.4GW in wind tender

Germany’s Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has reported high levels of participation in the country’s second onshore wind tender of 2025 after awarding contracts to projects totalling 3447MW.

The tender was 44% oversubscribed, with BNetzA receiving 568 bids totalling 4972MW. Bids ranged from 6.47¢/kWh to 6.94¢/kWh, and the tender achieved an average volume-weighted award value of 6.83¢/kWh.

The award value is lower than that achieved in the first tender round of 2025 and was significantly below the maximum value of 7.35¢/kWh, BNetzA said.

“The tender for onshore wind turbines continues to be characterized by high participation. This is accompanied by further declining award values,” said Klaus Müller, BNetzA president (pictured).

The tender is the fourth consecutive onshore wind tender in Germany to be oversubscribed and brings the amount of awarded capacity in 2025 to around 7540MW, according to Germany wind energy association BWE.

“This means that after just six months, 2025 has almost equalled the previous year’s record of 10,996 MW of awards,” said BWE President Bärbel Heidebroek. “If this trend continues, awards of around 14,400MW are possible by the end of the year.”

Heidebroek added: “The renewed strong participation shows that the easing of the wind energy regulations and the clear area targets are having their full effect.

“Wind energy is on track. With an average implementation period of approximately two years from the award date, a significant jump in new capacity is expected starting in 2026. The grids must now be prepared for this.”

BNetzA today also launched the third onshore wind tender of 2025, which again aims to award EEG support contracts to 3440MW of capacity. The bidding deadline is August 1.
