Energiequelle has successfully commissioned the 54MW Zeven wind farm in Lower Saxony, Germany, completing construction in 14 months despite challenging site conditions.
The project comprises nine Vestas V162 turbines, each with a hub height of 169 metres and a rotor diameter of 162 metres, supplying enough electricity to power 40,000 households annually.
Project manager Robert Koddebusch said: “The persistent wind and extreme wetness really demanded everything from us in the boggy landscape.
“The fact that the project still remained on schedule is impressive proof of the high level of professionalism of everyone involved and the commitment of the entire project team.”
Construction began in April 2024 following final permitting in January after a third-party objection required design changes under the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
The first turbine began generating in early May, and all nine are now exporting to the grid with an expected annual output of 133 million kWh.
Encavis acquired eight of the turbines in May, while the ninth will be operated by Bürgerwindpark Wistedt GmbH & Co. KG.
Energiequelle said the project delivers regional benefits through lease payments and municipal participation, and further developments are planned in Lower Saxony, including in the Rotenburg district.
