Dutch developer GIGA Storage has entered the German market with the acquisition of a large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) project.
GIGA Storage said the acquisition of the 350MW / 1400MWh Project Albatross marks a significant milestone in the company’s international growth strategy.
The project was developed by Isenau Projects, a specialised BESS developer focused on delivering large-scale battery energy storage systems in Germany from initial planning stages through to construction readiness.
Located near Merzen, Lower Saxony, Project GIGA Albatross will deliver essential grid services in one of Germany’s main energy corridors and is expected to contribute to renewable integration, frequency regulation, and local congestion management.
GIGA Storage says it will actively participate in the further development of Project Albatross by providing development capital, technical expertise, and operational know-how, with the goal of bringing the project to construction-ready status.
The acquisition is supported by InfraVia Capital Partners, a leading European infrastructure investor and majority shareholder of GIGA Storage.
GIGA Storage chief executive Kevin Dijkers said: “Our ambition is to develop and operate multiple gigawatts of energy storage capacity across Europe in the coming years.
“With the support of InfraVia and our growing project pipeline, we are making significant strides toward this goal – contributing to both energy security and sustainability in key European markets.”
Managing director of Isenau Projects Sven Moos added: “We are excited to collaborate with GIGA Storage on Project Albatross. This transaction reflects our focus on high-quality BESS projects that meet the needs of grid operators, investors, and policymakers.
“Our shared commitment to quality, innovation, and the energy transition makes this partnership natural and compelling.”
