Ampyr Distributed Energy expands into Germany

Renewables investor Ampyr Distributed Energy (ADE) is expanding into Germany in a bid to accelerate European growth in commercial and industrial on-site renewables.

With a power purchase agreement (PPA) model that enables businesses to deploy renewable assets, such as rooftop solar and battery energy storage (BESS), with no upfront costs, ADE says it is well-placed to support German businesses aiming to build energy resilience and meet sustainability goals.

The business, part of the AGP Group, has already contracted over 50MW of renewable energy capacity across around 50 sites in the UK and is committed to accelerating this momentum internationally.

ADE chief executive John Behan said: “We’re on a mission to harness the power of on-site renewable energy and transform business energy resilience.

“With some of the highest energy costs in Europe, Germany is an obvious target market for us. It has huge potential for on-site PPAs, supported by ambitious renewable energy policies.”

ADE’s German operations will be led by Nick Koidl (pictured), who has been appointed to the role of managing director of Germany.

Koidl is the founder of solar development and finance company Iguana Energy. He was also the founder and managing director of Alternative Investment Partners (AIP), established in 2010, a renewable energy advisory business that has structured more than 1GW of renewable energy transactions globally.

Koidl added: “I’m honoured to join ADE. With a solid foundation already in place, I’m excited to work alongside our exceptional colleagues to achieve our ambitious growth targets and further position ADE as a European leader in distributed energy funded solutions.

“In a rapidly evolving energy landscape, our financial strength, technological expertise and strong local partnerships clearly set us apart – demonstrating our commitment to enabling corporates to transition to cleaner sources of energy, while fostering sustainable economic growth across Europe.”

Behan concluded: “Since our inception in January 2024, ADE has become a leading player in the UK C&I renewables market, supporting high-profile customers across a diverse range of industries; including manufacturing, retail, leisure and sports stadiums.

“Looking ahead to Germany, I’m confident in the quality of our team and the partners already on the ground. I look forward to seeing the business accelerate internationally over the coming years.”
