RWE is expanding its onshore wind portfolio in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.
Near Papenhagen near the small town of Grimmen in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, RWE is erecting four wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 22.8MW.
After winning the bid at the end of last year in the auction of the Federal Network Agency, the company has now started construction work.
Commissioning is planned for mid-2026. After that, they will supply around 20,000 households with green electricity.
RWE is building another wind turbine in the immediate vicinity to provide services for a project partner.
Katja Wünschel, chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said: “We are continuing to accelerate the expansion of wind energy in Germany and expanding our wind fleet in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
“The local people also benefit from this.
“We voluntarily pay 0.2 cents per kilowatt hour produced to the surrounding municipalities.
“For the wind farm near Papenhagen, this is expected revenues of up to €130,000 per year.”
