Stefan Thimm is to remain as head of Germany’s Federal Association of Offshore Wind Energy (BWO) for another five-year term.
Thimm has been managing director of the offshore wind trade group since the beginning of 2020.
Chair of the board Irina Lucke said: “Stefan Thimm has led the BWO office with great commitment and strategic vision in recent years.
“Under his leadership, the BWO has opened up along the value chain and further strengthened its role as the central voice of the offshore wind industry.
“With his confirmation as managing director, we are relying on continuity and expertise in order to consistently advance the challenges and opportunities of expanding offshore wind energy.”
Before joining the BWO, Thimm worked for the German Energy and Water Association (BDEW) from 2002, where he was promoted to head of the renewable energies department in 2009.
Thimm said: “I would like to thank the member companies of the BWO for their trust and the confirmation of my role as managing director.
“Offshore wind energy plays a central role in the energy transition and in ensuring a sustainable energy supply.
“I look forward to driving the development of the industry together with our members and other stakeholders and to actively shaping the political framework under a new federal government.
“The next few years will determine the extent to which the legally stipulated expansion of offshore wind energy will create added value and jobs in Germany and Europe.”
