Finnish developer Suomen Hyotytuuli has brought a 236MW wind farm into commercial operation.
The Siikajoki wind farm, in Northern Ostrobothnia, increases the capacity of Suomen Hyotytuuli’s portfolio to 654MW.
Siikajoki is Suomen Hyotytuuli’s largest wind energy project so far, comprising 38 Vestas V162-6.2MW wind turbines.
The assembly of the turbines was completed in autumn 2024, after which the work has continued with test use and gradual commissioning.
“The project was largely completed on schedule.
“Due to the fire at Hitachi’s transformer factory in Vaasa, the project will continue until next summer when the transformers will be replaced.
“However, all 38 turbines have been in production already since the beginning of 2025,” said Harri Suutari, project director at Suomen Hyotytuuli.
Suomen Hyotytuuli’s share of the wind energy capacity completed in 2024 was approximately 30% of the total wind energy capacity in Finland.
Suomen Hyotytuuli owns 10 wind farms on the west coast of Finland.
