Invenergy’s 2400MW Leading Light project has requested a second delay in finalising the project’s contract with the state of New Jersey, citing ongoing problems finding a turbine supplier.
In a December filing with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the developer told the procurement authority that the “offshore wind equipment market continues to experience significant price volatility and the Company has not yet identified a solution to that volatility”.
“While Invenergy has not resolved this problem, the Company continues to believe that the LLW Project has the potential to provide significant environmental and economic benefits to New Jersey and its residents,” the company added.
Invenergy said that it remains committed to the project.
Leading Light Wind Project Director Wes Jacobs said: “This additional time will allow us to continue to navigate ongoing market shifts and supply chain challenges, as we work to advance development of this important project for New Jersey.”
The developer asked for a previous delay in July, 2024, following the cancellation of GE Vernova’s 18MW machine, as well as price increases from Siemens Gamesa and what Invenergy said was the unsuitability of Vestas turbines for the project.
