Onshore wind developer Bute Energy has launched its Net Zero Skills Strategy to tackle the green skills gap, with Wales projected to need 25,000 green jobs by 2050.
Bute Energy alone is expected to create up to 2,000 of these jobs through its onshore wind energy projects.
However, with a looming skills gap and the Welsh Government’s 2035 net-zero targets approaching, the company is taking action to strengthen the supply chain and inspire future generations of workers.
The strategy aims to build a talent pipeline to fill critical roles in the renewable energy sector, including engineers, project managers, and planners.
Bute plans to do this by focusing on four key areas: school engagement, upskilling and training, partnerships and events, and industry collaboration.
It said it had engaged with over 7,000 pupils to date, delivered six paid internships and partnering with educational institutions like Careers Wales and Wales’ colleges and universities.
Biba Chuta, social mobility partner at Bute Energy, said: “Wales is facing a monumental challenge in creating a workforce that can meet the demand for green jobs.
“Our Net Zero Skills Strategy is designed to address these gaps head-on, from the classroom to the boardroom, with the aim of building a diverse, inclusive workforce ready to deliver the infrastructure needed for a sustainable future.”
