Sany Renewable Energy has installed a self-developed onshore 15MW wind turbine, the SI-270150, in Tongyu, Jilin Province, China.
This achievement set two new global records for the largest single-unit capacity and the largest rotor diameter for onshore turbines, the turbine firm said.
This 15MW onshore wind turbine is Sany’s flagship product developed on the 12.X-16.X MW platform.
It has an extended design life of 25 to 30 years, a rotor diameter of 270 metres, and blade lengths of 131 metres, with a maximum swept area of 57,256 square meters, enabling a single unit to generate enough electricity to power 160,000 households for an entire year, Sany said.
The SI-270150 incorporates a lightweight design and intelligent load reduction technologies, which reduce the overall load and facilitate long-distance land transportation, it added.
Its drivetrain features a dual TRB integrated main shaft support system, ensuring high load-bearing capacity and stability.
The prototype of the 15MW wind turbine will now undergo over a year of operational testing in an experimental wind farm to thoroughly verify the reliability of its components and the complete system under real-world conditions.
