An investigation is underway following a collision between a service operation vessel and a wind turbine at Orsted’s 1200MW Hornsea 1 wind farm off east England.
The incident occurred at 1838 yesterday (19 September) when Louis Dreyfus Armateurs’ Wind of Hope SOV (pictured) hit the unit while carrying 26 crew and 46 specialist personnel on board.
The France-based vessel operator said no injuries were sustained nor pollution reported.
Damage was reported to the vessel above the waterline and the helideck with no water ingress. The Wind of Hope will now proceed to port for damage assessment.
Some damage has been reported to the base of the turbine and an exclusion zone established.
The LDA spokesperson added: “We can report the SOV collided with a wind turbine at Hornsea 1. All relevant authorities have been informed and an investigation has started into the cause of the accident.”
Orsted said: “We will carry out a full inspection (of the turbine) to assess the damage and see how long repairs might take.”
