RWE is the main sponsor of Mayo Mayhem, Ireland’s biggest annual windsurfing event, which takes place this September in County Mayo.
Mayo Mayhem is held in Belmullet and attracts the best windsurfers from across the globe who come to compete in the wild North Atlantic trying to secure points for the windsurfing world tour.
The RWE sponsorship will enable the Mayo Mayhem event to achieve a 3 star status on the World Windsurfing World Tour, which have a set minimum prize money fund along with high quality video media productions such as the inclusion of high-quality drone video footage.
Malcolm Scott, organiser of Mayo Mayhem said, “We are delighted to have RWE on board for our flagship event.
“The crossover between windsurfing and wind energy isn’t hard to figure out and it is great to have them supporting us through this sponsorship as our country makes the transition towards carbon neutrality.
“We look forward to what looks like a fantastic competition and can’t wait to meet competitors, spectators, volunteers and all involved at the end of September.”
RWE’s Head of Onshore Renewables Development (Wind Solar and Storage) Ireland, Cliona O’Sullivan, added: “We are pleased to sponsor this competition for the world’s top windsurfers and to showcase what Ireland has to offer international windsurfers across the globe.
“This sponsorship highlights our underlying commitment to developing renewable energy in the Northwest.
“RWE is currently developing onshore and offshore wind in Ireland as well as solar, battery energy storage and helping to develop new innovative technologies, including our Airborne Wind Test site at Bangor Erris.”
