Transmission system operator 50Hertz has awarded a Dragados Offshore, Siemens Energy consortium with a contract to deliver new offshore and onshore converters for the LanWin3 North Sea grid connection project.
The EPCI contract includes all engineering services, component procurement, construction, transportation and installation of the 2GW systems on land and at sea.
The offshore platform will be built at Dragados Offshore’s yard in Cadiz, Spain, while the components will be built at European production sites by Siemens Energy. The onshore DC-AC converter will be sited near Schwerin, Mecklenburg.
LanWin3 will provide a 200km connection between an offshore wind farm in the German North Sea and a grid connection point in the Heide area of North Friesland where it will link to the new NordOstLink HVDC transmission line.
