Hafslund is buying the 208MW Tonstad Vindpark in the Norwegian municipalities of Sirdal and Flekkefjord from a fund managed by the Swiss investment company SUSI Partners.
The purchase is a significant strengthening of Hafslund’s existing wind power portfolio, the developer said.
Hafslund Kraft is Norway’s second largest energy producer with a stake in 80 hydropower plants and two wind arrays.
The company is owned by Hafslund and Eidsiva Energi, which in turn is wholly owned by municipalities and the county council of Innlandet and Oslo municipality.
Tonstad Vindpark is among Norway’s largest land-based wind power plants with an installed output of 208MW and an annual production of around 670GWh, which corresponds to the electricity consumption of almost 100,000 people.
The purchase is a significant strengthening of Hafslund’s wind power portfolio, which today consists of a 20% ownership stake in the Raskiftet and Kjølberget arrays.
In addition, Hafslund gets a greater spread in the power portfolio with production in the NO2 price range, the company said.
Hafslund Kraft managing director Kristin Lian said: “Tonstad Vindpark is a good and profitable wind power plant that also ensures Norwegian industrial workplaces with electricity at predictable prices.
“With ownership in over 80 power plants, we know what it means to be a visible and responsible actor in our local communities.
“We are proud to have good relations with all our host municipalities, and are looking forward to getting to know Sirdal and Flekkefjord better.”
The power production from Tonstad Wind Park has been sold to Hydro Energi through a long-term PPA with a duration of 25 years.
Hafslund Kraft will change the name of the company from Tonstad Vindpark AS to Tonstad Vindkraftverk AS.
The implementation of the transaction requires approval from the Norwegian Competition Authority and NVE.
