Two workers have been injured by an apparent explosion at the 32MW La Bandera wind farm in Spain’s Navarre region, according to local officials.
Emergency services were called to the site in Bardenas Reales on the afternoon of Friday 10 May and treated a 29-year-old female and 31-year-old man, who were injured “to varying degrees”, according to a statement released by the Navarre government.
They were working at the wind farm “when a wind turbine exploded” at 4:25pm, and were transferred to hospital with first- and second-degree burns injuries following initial assessments by medical teams, the statement reads.
Local police are investigating the cause of the incident.
The wind farm is owned by Spanish renewables developer Enhol and is equipped with 44 wind turbines from Ecotecnia. It started operating in 2001.
Enhol submitted an application earlier this year to repower the site with six Nordex N163/5.X units.
The company declined to comment on the incident when contact by reNEWS.
