Uniper has received official notification from the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) that its 19MW solar project Voslapper Groden was successful in the most recent tender.
The planned solar plant is to be built on an ash landfill site near the former coal-fired power plant in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony.
Having been selected, the project can now enter the next phase.
“The German Renewable Energy Law (EEG) has proven to be an important catalyst for the success of renewable energy projects, as it provides a stable and supportive framework for their development.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local authorities and the local community – it is only by working together that we will succeed in making the energy transition more sustainable.
“In that sense, this project marks one step of many more to come to bring our multiple GW of onshore wind and solar PV projects across Europe, often with co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) to life,” said Jorg Lennertz, Uniper Renewables, CEO.
The project involves the installation of over 30,000 solar modules on 14 hectare area.
In accordance with the development plan drawn up by the city of Wilhelmshaven, external compensation measures will be implemented for the solar project, with 18 ha of intensive grassland and fallow land to be ecologically redesigned and upgraded.
