Low Carbon has unveiled plans to grow its presence in Germany with an initial solar pipeline of more than 400MW.
The UK-headquartered developer said it also has the potential to develop a significant portfolio of renewable assets in Germany.
The first project, Weißholz (Whitewood) solar farm, located in the state of Brandenburg in Wusterhausen, is expected to enter construction in 2025 and will have a peak capacity of 63MW.
The project recently received municipality approval, marking a key milestone in its development, and now awaits the completion of environmental mapping and zoning changes.
In addition to the initial development pipeline of solar capacity, Low Carbon is exploring opportunities in wind and storage projects as it aims to expand its renewables portfolio in Germany.
Headquartered in Berlin, Low Carbon’s German operations are being led by Head of Development, Murad Can.
Ian Larive, Managing Director of Investments at Low Carbon, said: “We are pleased to announce our growth plans for the German renewables market, which signifies a key step in our journey to accelerate the energy transition.
“Our team has a strong track record of building and operating utility-scale renewables and we are determined to play a key role in helping advance Europe’s aim for climate neutrality.”
Can added: “Germany represents the largest renewables market in Europe and is underpinned by ambitious national targets for solar and wind deployment by the 2030s.
“We are making good progress with our flagship project, Weißholz (Whitewood) solar farm, which recently received municipality approval and we look forward to growing the rest of our pipeline in the coming months.”
