50Hertz restructures management

German transmission system operator 50Hertz has restructured its management set-up.

The company said the changes are in order to be able to implement the demanding investment and construction programme for the coming years on time.

The shake-up comes after long-time technical director Dr Frank Golletz retired after 34 years with the company and entails expanded and new responsibilities at management level, said the TSO.

“We have now entered a new phase of the company. We are building and investing more than ever before and we must climb the steep summit to our 100% renewables goal,” said chief executive Stefan Kapferer.

“This requires a bundling of competencies and more efficient implementation processes.”

Responsibility for all network expansion projects on land and at sea has been transferred to Marco Nix, who as chief finance and investment officer is responsible for both the financing and implementation of the new line construction projects and the majority of the CAPEX volume.

New chief operations officer Dirk Biermann is responsible for network operations and system management as well as network planning, assets, customer management and electricity trading. This means these areas, which guarantee reliable and safe electricity transport from a technical and market perspective, have moved closer together, said the TSO.

As chief corporate officer, labour director Sylvia Borcherding has taken on responsibility for the competence centres for nature conservation and permits as well as technical planning and implementation in addition to her areas of responsibility for human resources management and corporate governance. These hubs serve to provide the necessary experts for network expansion projects.

In addition to corporate strategy, regulation, the legal department, communication and politics, the areas of energy industry and portfolio management were anchored in chief executive Stefan Kapferer’s business area.

The long-standing technical director of 50Hertz Golletz retired at the end of March after working for the TSO and its predecessor companies for 34 years.

“Frank Golletz, with his detailed specialist knowledge, his passion for electrical engineering – and also with his pragmatism and humour – has shaped this company like no other, first in various functions in network operations, then as head of a regional centre and finally as a technical person Managing Director and also as interim chief executive of 50Hertz,” said Kapferer.

“On behalf of the entire company, I would like to thank Frank Golletz for the good cooperation.”
