Iberdrola-owned Ailes Marines has announced the complete installation of the 62 offshore turbines at the 496MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in France.
The jack-up vessel Brave Tern of the Norwegian company Fred Olsen Windcarrier installed the last 8MW machine on position SB49 on December 17, 2023.
The ship will have completed 18 rotations from Le Havre, with the constituent elements of three to four turbines on board.
The commissioning of the project, which has been providing power since July 2023, will continue until the first quarter of 2024.
Work to install the turbines began in May 2023.
In the space of eight months, the 62 machines built in the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Le Havre factory were installed on their jacket foundations.
Iberdrola France offshore wind director Stéphane Alain Riou said: “We are particularly proud of the work carried out by our teams within the time frame initially announced.
“Iberdrola once again demonstrates its ability to carry out a large-scale project, here in Brittany, and at the same time confirms its status as a leader in offshore wind power.
“Saint-Brieuc is the first French offshore wind farm and the 4th in Europe developed and built by the group.
“Iberdrola is currently building the East Anglia 3 park in the United Kingdom with a capacity of 1.4GW and the Vineyard park in the United States with 800MW.
“In total, Iberdrola has invested more than €10bn to fully finance its offshore wind farms around the world and install them within the announced deadlines.”
The commissioning of the park has done in stages. A first tranche of 20% is already operational.
A second tranche of 50% will be completed at the beginning of 2024, to reach 100% during the first quarter of 2024.
