Iberdrola has awarded Windar Renovables the transition pieces contract for the 315MW German offshore wind farm Windanker.
A total of 21 elements will be manufactured at Windar’s facilities in Avilés, Spain.
The execution of the project will begin in November 2024 and will last until the summer of 2025, which will demand more than 450,000 working hours, generating 400 jobs.
The production at the Avilés facilities will happen with the collaboration of a large number of Spanish suppliers in the manufacture of the secondary structure, which will be integrated in the Port of Avilés, prior to its shipment to Germany.
Each of these elements will have a maximum height of 17 metres, a diameter of eight metres and a weight of 400 tonnes.
Windanker, in the Baltic Sea, will feature turbines with a unit capacity of approximately 15MW.
Part of the electricity generated will be allocated to power sales contracts once it is commissioned in 2026.
Windanker will strengthen the Baltic Hub, which will add more than 1.1GW of installed capacity, also comprising Windar’s previously built Wikinger and Baltic Eagle projects.
