Industry figures at WindEurope 2023 in Copenhagen have called for more support for the European wind industry if it is to accelerate capacity buildout.
WindEurope Deputy CEO Malgosia Bartosik hailed the recent move by nine European government to target 120GW of offshore wind capacity this decade.
She said: “In fact, the European Parliament and national governments just agreed an even higher target, from the existing renewable target of 32% to 42.5%.
“Acceleration of renewables was placed at the heart of the European strategy for a more resilient and energy secure economy.”
Green Power Denmark Deputy CEO Jan Hylleberg told delegates the industry is “ready to deliver” but in turn, it needs “free and fair competition and renewables-friendly regulation” to succeed in the green transition.
He said: “While there is an obvious need for renewable energy, the current market demand is not supportive enough to make wind energy profitable on a large scale.
“Therefore we need more market, more grit, more demand and more permitting to see the orders come in.”
