Navantia Seanergies and Windar will manufacture 45 monopiles for Iberdrola for the 1400MW East Anglia 3 offshore wind farm.
This is the largest contract for this type of foundation for Navantia-Windar to date.
Production will take place at the Navantia and Windar monopiles factory located in the Fene shipyard, in A Coruña, Spain.
The order will involve 900,000 hours over 15 months and will begin in June 2023, generating around 450 jobs between Navantia, Windar and the collaborating auxiliary industry.
When commissioned in 2026, the park where the monopiles will be installed will have a generation capacity of 1400MW, enough to supply clean energy to 1.3 million homes.
With this new order, Navantia Seanergies-Windar reinforces its position in this product line and strengthens a relationship of more than nine years with Iberdrola, which adds contracts worth more than €1,000m, with orders for offshore wind farms of Iberdrola in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States.
The monopiles will have maximum dimensions of 84 metres in length, 1800 tons in weight and 10.6 metres in diameter.
These foundations correspond to the East Anglia 3 wind farm, which is located within the East Anglia complex, in British waters and of which a substation and42 jackets have already been built.
This is the largest order for the factory located in Fene, a facility in which Navantia and Windar have invested €36m in.
The actions in this factory have involved the adaptation of a warehouse to bend thick sheet metal up to 16 metres in diameter, new painting booths and storage areas for finished products, as well as state-of-the-art equipment necessary for manufacturing.
President of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez said: “This contract represents an important step for the Fene factory and for our participation in the offshore wind energy market, consolidating us as a manufacturer that can build the three types of foundations for an offshore wind farm.
“Our commitment to green energy is a commitment to more sustainable growth and, at the same time, to the industry of our country.”
Windar Renovables executive president Orlando Alonso added: “The new factory in which this order will be produced allows our business alliance to provide a world-class service, of which Iberdrola will be the first beneficiary.
“We are leading global players, we incorporate our own innovations into our plants, and we have more than enough capacity to meet the demand of park developers.”
Last month, Iberdrola has awarded the Haizea Wind Group with a contract to supply 50 monopiles for the UK project.
The company will fabricate the monopiles at its Haizea Bilbao facility in the Port of Biscay.
