Preparatory construction work is currently taking place in the Port of Emden for Orsted’s Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms.
Work has started to prepare the foundations for the projects off the North Sea coast of East Friesland in summer when a 107 monopile foundations for the two wind farms are due to be installed.
The installation of the wind turbines will follow in the summer of 2024.
After the wind farms have been handed over to the operational management at the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025, a further 1.2 million households can be supplied with green electricity, Orsted said.
As in previous projects, EPAS will assume the role of port service provider and support logistical tasks such as loading and unloading Orsted’s ships.
Malte Hippe, managing director of Orsted in Germany and responsible for the Group’s operations management in Central Europe, said: “Emden is essential as a location for the construction of our new wind farms in Germany.
“For the construction of our offshore wind farms, we need a suitable location that enables us to organize the logistics effectively and to have the shortest possible distances to the plants – this is possible from Emden in cooperation with EPAS”.
Dennis Bormann, site manager at Orsted responsible for coordinating the offshore installation work at Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3, added: “It’s great to have such a reliable and broad-based partner like EPAS at our side.
“The cooperation is professional and flexible, which suits us very well during the construction phase. In order to be able to coordinate the installation work over the next two years, we opened a project office in the port of Emden.”
Orsted has now also opened a project office on the south quay of the port in Emden, from which the construction of the two wind farms Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be coordinated over the next two years.
The premises are used in particular for controlling the offshore construction site in terms of safety and logistics.
Furthermore, the management of the commissioning of the wind farms is jointly responsible from there.
Scour protection work for the foundations has been carried out on the seabed since March.
Jan De Nul’s installation ship Simon Stevin has successfully installed the scour protection for Gode Wind 3.
The work on Borkum Riffgrund 3 is expected to be completed by the end of April, so that scour protection will be installed at all 107 foundation locations.
