SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn have officially opened the operations and maintenance base for the 3.6GW Dogger Bank wind farm in Newcastle.
An opening ceremony took place earlier today at the Port of Tyne with speeches from Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Graham Stuart MP; Equinor executive vice president of renewables Pål Eitrheim; Dogger Bank project director Oliver Cass (pictured); and Mayor of South Tyneside Pat Hay.
The facility itself was designed and built by Derbyshire-headquartered construction company Bowmer and Kirkland, with CBRE acting as project managers.
It features a 2,000 square metre warehouse, located quayside, in which spare parts such as wind turbine generators and gearboxes will be stored and transported onto vessels.
The base will support around 400 long term permanent jobs during the 35-year operational lifetime of the Dogger Bank project.
It is also set to host four new service operations vessels, which are currently being built by North Star renewables and will carry out maintenance activities at the wind farm once it is built.
